Andrew Wooyoung Kim, PhD

Biological anthropologist & human biologist studying the lifecourse and intergenerational mental health consequences of political violence, and exploring ways to help communities overcome historical trauma

Dr. Kim will be joining the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley in January 2022 as an Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology.

About Dr. Kim

Dr. Andrew Wooyoung Kim holds a PhD in biological anthropology from Northwestern University. He is a Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Honorary Lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Ongoing Projects

Browse through Dr. Kim’s current research on psycho-neuroendocrinology, psychiatric disease, intergenerational health, and mental healthcare systems in the Philippines, South Africa, and the United States.


Dr. Kim has published widely on issues of mental health, trauma, and recently, COVID-19. His work appears in Scientific Reports, Psychological Medicine, and American Journal of Biological Anthropology, among others.
